Description
Cantarutti Alfieri Winery was founded in 1969, when Alfieri Cantarutti purchased the first vineyards on the hills of Rosazzo, in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. The farmhouse of that time is today the operational center of the winery, housing administrative and production activities, set within one of the most fascinating landscapes of Italian viticulture. The Abbazia di Rosazzo and the surrounding territory boast a centuries-old winemaking tradition: already in the 15th century, wines from this area crossed Italian borders, and by the 16th century, they were served at imperial tables, appreciated by patriarchs and clergy. Today, over fifty years since its foundation, the hills have become an open-air garden, expressing the identity and beauty of the Colli Orientali. The winery’s vineyards stretch across both hills and plains, taking advantage of two complementary terroirs: Hills of Rosazzo: Vineyards sit on marly and stratified sandstone soils known as Flysch, which ensure excellent drainage and impart notable mineral richness to the wines. The microclimate benefits from the short distance to the Adriatic Sea and the presence of Santa Caterina hill, ensuring mild winters and springs, good ventilation, and ideal temperature variations for slow and complete grape ripening. Plains of Bolzano, San Giovanni al Natisone: Vineyards grow on soils formed from alluvial cones with calcareous deposits from river activity. The climate is equally favorable, protected from cold northern winds by surrounding mountains and influenced by gentle breezes from the Adriatic Sea. Cantarutti Alfieri is today synonymous with quality, elegance, and authenticity, representing the finest of Friulian winemaking tradition, with wines that consistently reflect the character of their territory.
