Description
Maso Thaler was born as an authentic expression of a family passion for viticulture, developed over time and realized in 2004, when the Motta family decided to leave city life in Rome to move to Alto Adige. Here, in Gleno, on a hill 630 meters above the town of Montagna, they purchased a farmhouse dating back to 1812 and started a project that combines love for the land, dedication, and respect for nature. It is precisely the unwavering passion for viticulture and the Alto Adige territory that guides the daily work of Nino Motta and his family. The work is complex and demanding, made even more challenging by the steep slopes of the land and some terraced vineyards, which require exclusively manual labor. Bold and unconventional choices, such as fully converting the 3.5 hectares to the Guyot training system, replacing the traditional Trentino pergolas, demonstrate an innovative approach deeply rooted in quality. Maso Thaler wines are produced exclusively from estate-grown grapes: Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC, Manzoni Bianco IGT, Sauvignon DOC, Chardonnay DOC, and Gewürztraminer DOC. The favorable south-southwest exposure of the vineyards ensures optimal ripening, while the altitude and ventilated climate with strong temperature fluctuations, especially between August and September, give the wines freshness, minerality, and longevity. Pinot Nero, in particular, finds here one of its top-growing areas in Italy, thanks to porphyry soils with calcareous veins and the perfect combination of soil and microclimate. Today, the winery is managed by the entire family: Nino, founder and soul of the project, is supported by his wife Anna Maria Vianini Tolomei and their children Filippo and Francesco, who oversee production, while Piergiorgio handles communication and marketing. Together, they carry forward a shared and coherent vision, where each bottle tells the essence of the land, the dedication of a family, and the realized dream of handcrafted wine made with heart.
