  • Description

The history of Cantine Santa Barbara is deeply intertwined with that of the Giorgiani family, who for three generations have devoted themselves with passion and expertise to vine cultivation and the production of excellent wines in Salento. Guardians of centuries-old knowledge, the Giorgiani family has successfully combined respect for ancient traditions with the continuous evolution of market tastes, investing time, energy, and care into perfecting their wines. Their love for the local indigenous grape varieties is matched only by their attention to major international grapes, which in the sun-drenched but fertile lands of southern Apulia find ideal conditions to fully express their unique potential. In recent years, under the expert guidance of patriarch Pietro Giorgiani, president and winemaker of the winery, a nearly forgotten variety with an authentic soul, Susumaniello, has been revived. Thanks to careful selection and an innovative winemaking process, this ancient grape has regained prominence, becoming one of the symbols of Apulia’s wine renaissance. The winemaking traditions of Salento have millennia-old roots, evidenced by history itself: since the times of the legendary Greek settlers, Salento ships set sail filled with amphorae of precious wine destined for the entire Mediterranean. Today, Cantine Santa Barbara, modern and cutting-edge, also hosts the “Ercole Giorgiani” Enological Museum Foundation, which serves as a cultural hub for promoting local viticulture. The foundation, chaired by Pietro Giorgiani and supported for over ten years by his daughters Maria Rosaria and Marcella, reflects the family’s commitment to keeping the historical and cultural roots of San Pietro Vernotico alive. Situated in the heart of this territory, the winery houses vineyards and production facilities for Winefication, aging, bottling, and distribution of wines that authentically express the connection between people, land, and tradition. Capturing decades of sacrifice, hope, and success in a few lines is challenging, but what clearly emerges is the Giorgiani family’s tireless dedication to maintaining high-quality artisanal wine production.
